Standalone grease traps. You’re often told that you need one, but how effective are they at preventing fats, oils, grease and starches (FOGS) from your restaurant from entering the drainage system? While grease traps can be highly effective in slowing the flow of FOG (fats, oils and grease) into the sewers, they are not an altogether perfect solution when kitchen space is limited, nor if starches are your main concern. Standalone grease traps are also a challenge to clean. What makes them even less appealing are the unpleasant odours they often create and the insects, rodents and other pests they draw. Freestanding grease traps are also costly to install and maintain – due in no small part to the fact that they have to be frequently emptied by licensed contractors.
GreasePak is a highly effective, low maintenance and environmentally friendly alternative to standalone grease traps. Its unique automatic dosing system doses a highly concentrated active bio-fluid into the drain, which is specially formulated to degrade fats, oils, grease and starches (FOGS) and to address the drainage problems found in commercial kitchens.
The beauty of the product is that it can be used as an independent drain maintenance system, in conjunction with an existing grease trap, or as part of the combined intercept and treatment system BioCeptor, to give you the end result of clear, free-flowing drains and fewer headaches for you and your business.
How does GreasePak work?
There are all sorts of different solutions out there – all of which can help you achieve varying degrees of success when it comes to stopping your FOGS from entering the sewers. Considered to be the most powerful multi-strain grease degrader on the market, the GreasePak unit works by using naturally occurring, non-pathogenic bacteria to bind to, break down and digest FOGS particles – permanently. The eco-friendly Class 1 biodegradable product degrades fat molecules into smaller, simpler molecules that cannot reform or solidify. The microorganisms in the solution have been chosen for their ability to degrade FOGS in low-oxygen conditions such as drains, where pH levels often fluctuate. These degraded products are then further digested by the bacterial population or are quickly washed away – spelling clear drains and an even clearer conscience for you as the business owner.
While the solution itself is leading the way in environmentally sound innovation, its application is remarkably simple. A compact, wall-mounted dispenser automatically delivers a daily dose of the patented multi-strain solution directly into the drain system – no need to worry that you’ll forget.
What are the benefits of GreasePak?
While we’ve already touched on some of the key benefits of GreasePak over other solutions on the market, it’s important to understand exactly what sets it apart – and why it could prove to be a great long-term investment for your commercial kitchen space.
It doesn’t take up any floor space
Unlike many traditional grease trap units, GreasePak doesn’t take up any floor space. The value of this cannot be overstated – particularly if your staff are working in a kitchen where space is limited. Compact and wall-mounted, you’ll hardly know it’s there as it silently does its job.
It’s compliant with UK legislation
In line with UK legislation such as the Water Industry Act, GreasePak helps keep your kitchen safe and compliant, while reassuring you that your business is not contributing to a buildup of FOGS in the local water system. CE certified and built to ISO 9001-2015 standards, at present GreasePak is the only bioremediation system to be BBA-approved (certificate 1¼827) as an effective form of grease removal and helps you meet the guidelines of Health & Safety best practice as laid out by the EHO.
It is cost-effective
- The cost of running a GreasePak system is very minimal when considering the time saved in the maintenance of a traditional system or jetting drains and sewers to clear blockages.
- Where a combined system is installed, it reduces the frequency of servicing/cleaning needed versus a traditional standalone grease trap.
It is simple to install, operate and maintain
Requiring no water or electrical connections, GreasePak is extremely easy to use and an all-round low-maintenance solution. The wall-mounted system has a built-in alarm to alert when it is time to change its easy-to-handle fluid packs. On a day-to-day basis, GreasePak dosing units are designed to be easy to clean, preventing the buildup of dangerous and harmful bacteria in your kitchen space. Simply wipe over with a clean disposable cloth and freshwater, and you’re good to go. The battery should last around two years. When the battery needs replacing, the “Low Battery” warning light will begin to flash.
It is environmentally friendly and safe to use
Perhaps its most important benefit, GreasePak is proven to be eco-friendly and uses no harsh chemicals in dealing with FOGS.
Blockages in commercial kitchen drains can be costly to deal with, unsanitary and unsafe – not to mention illegal. GreasePak is part of one end-to-end solution, which also includes our Food Waste Strainer, to prevent food waste particles from entering the drainage system via the sink, and the BioCeptor, which features a F.I.T (FOG Intercept & Treatment) unit to slow down the wastewater and intercept FOGS. GreasePak’s dosing module breaks down the captured FOGS, thereby dramatically reducing the frequency of servicing needed. In fact, the presence of GreasePak dosing (versus without) has been shown to extend the length of time between collections from 28 days to 12 weeks.
Used in conjunction, our complete solution gives you comprehensive protection against FOGS entering your drains – and does so in the most efficient, safe and eco-friendly way possible.
It is important to note that a full site evaluation should always be carried out to help you decide on the most suitable solution to manage and/or treat FOGS discharged into your foodservice operation –– we can help with this.
