Today we took inspiration from a certain fast-food giant and flipped our Mechline ‘M’ on its head in support of National Women’s Day.
This is a day to celebrate how far women have come in society, in politics, in economics and of course the food service and hospitality industry, and to raise awareness of continued inequality.
Although there is still a long way to go, data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) analysed last year suggested that there had been a positive shift , with consistently more women than men now working in the hospitality industry (54%) and a rise in females chefs working in the UK (a 34% increase in 2017).
However, senior management roles still remain to be dominated by men (the British Hospitality Association reports that only 15% of senior management positions within the tourism and hospitality industry are held by women) and The World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report suggests that overall, gender parity is still over 200 years away.
Here at Mechline we are proud to show our support for National Women’s Day and raising awareness for continued gender equality. In keeping with this, this month the ladies at Mechline decided to take over our internal newsletter with an all-female edition – where they helped to spread the word and showcased just how brilliant they are! Kudos to them!
