Input Into EFRA Report Results In A Visit To HQ From MP

MECHLINE’S INPUT INTO EFRA REPORT RESULTS IN A VISIT TO HQ FROM LOCAL MP

Conservative MP for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart, has visited Mechline Developments.

The visit to the Milton Keynes-based kitchen solutions company was arranged in response to the publication of the recommendations of the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee’s report into waste management in England in late October, where Mechline provided significance evidence which was utilised in the report’s findings.

Mechline is responsible for the development and manufacture of the award winning ‘Waste-2-0’ – a biological processing system that converts end-of-life food waste into waste water through a bioremediation aerobic digestion process.

The company’s intensive work on food waste management and its positioning in the hospitality and foodservice sector has meant it has gathered a lot of experience and expertise in handling commercial food waste issues.

Mechline’s evidence gathering that went with the development of Waste-2-O was a key part of the EFRA inquiry and was acknowledged by the EFRA committee in the recommendations.

“The critical issue,” explains Peter Galliford, Mechline commercial director, “is that there has to be a multi-discipline and systems option availability for operators.

“This ensures that they can fully evaluate and appraise systems to deliver the most viable environmental and economic solution, to suit local situations.

“The Waste-2-0 certainly delivers a very credible and proven environmental and economical solution to the hospitality and foodservice industry.”

During his visit, Stewart, stressed the Government’s position of recognising the importance of innovation and manufacturing businesses to the UK economy and growth.

He also acknowledged how companies such as Mechline, involved in innovation, product development and manufacturing, are so important to the economy and reflected on how a successful manufacturing business has a considerable and positive knock-on effect for other businesses in the locality.

Galliford told the MP that 17 other businesses from the local area benefited from the development and on-going manufacturing of the Waste-2-0, in terms of product and component supply. “Within the UK a total of 28 businesses contribute to the Waste-2-0 project. Success really does breed success,” he says.

According to Galliford, other issues discussed with the MP included concerns shared over skills shortages that affect business growth and the recruitment of qualified personnel, especially engineers.

Galliford also raised the point that the Government’s recognition and on-going support of apprentice programmes was critical to develop new talent and qualified personnel coming through industry.

Stewart pointed to the revised R&D incentives announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn statement while Peter Sage-Passant, Mechline managing director, shared his views on just how important Government policy was in encouraging innovation and development to be supported in the UK, as the economy will benefit in the long term with growth and employment.

As he left, Stewart commended Mechline for their ongoing work and commitment to innovation, development and manufacturing in Milton Keynes and assured them of on-going support in initiatives with the Government and Parliamentary committees.
