AquaJet Pre-rinse Sprays
Hardly any water is coming through my pre-rinse.
AquaJet pre-rinse sprays are designed to operate at a minimum water pressure of 1.5 bar (22 psi), which is stated in each unit's installation instructions. It is quite common for pre-rinses to be installed on mains cold supply, but on a tank fed hot supply, the resulting water supply may be good on one side of the pre-rinse and poor on the other. All pre-rinse sprays are of the same basic design and do not operate well at low pressure.
If unbalanced supplies are being experienced (good on one side but poor on the other), a simple test is to turn the pre-rinse spray round (if it is an AJPR20, 30, or 40); i.e., connect the hot supply to the cold and the cold supply to the hot. If the side that was running well is now running poorly, this indicates a site supply problem and there is nothing wrong with the pre-rinse.
A low-pressure supply will affect the Pre-Rinse Spray unit's performance. It is important to have the minimum water pressure on site to realise optimal operational levels. As an added Quality Assurance, Mechline pre-tests every assembled AquaJet unit before it leaves the factory to ensure it is operational.
Therefore, if the unit is not working properly, the first thing to check is the installation and pressure on site.
If the site supplies are inadequate, sometimes booster pumps are fitted to the supplies to assist water flow.
My bowl-filling tap doesn't have a good flow.
If the pre-rinse spray unit has a bowl-filling tap fitted (an additional spout used to fill pots, etc.), the flow through the spout can be improved by removing the flow restrictor in the spout. (Refer to installation instructions.)
Are the site water supplies adequate?
If water pressure appears adequate, ensure that any water hoses fitted are not kinked. Also be sure that no debris has washed up the water line and is blocking the valve.
If all of these things are okay, Mechline will need to inspect the unit to determine if there is a fault with parts or workmanship. To activate Mechline's Returns Policy, please contact Mechline on 01908 261511 ( info@mechline.com ) to receive a Returns Number. Returned products are returned at the operator's own expense as Mechline's warranty only covers parts.
Options that can help pre-rinse operation in poor water flow are:
Use an AJPR10 connected to the highest pressure feed (cold-side recommended).
Fit an energy saving faceplate to the pre-rinse spray gun.
Use a fan blade gun.
Fit a Delabie high-flow pre-rinse.
Fit an AJPR50 High-Flow, pre-rinse spray unit.
I am getting good water flow through the taps in my kitchen, but not so good through the pre-rinse, even though they are on the same supply.
Carry out all of the checks listed above, but there are fundamental reasons why a tap will provide a better flow than a pre-rinse. A tap has a direct water path i.e. when you turn it on, a water path is opened and the water flows. Pre-rinses (all makes) have built-in, non-return valves (built into the headworks) to prevent the hot and cold water cross-contaminating. The non-return valves naturally cause resistance against the water as it flows. This is why we specify 1.5 bar (22 psi) as a minimum water pressure for Aquajet. (All pre-rinses on the market are the same.)
If the pre-rinse has a bowl-filling faucet fitted, the flow through the spout can be improved by removing the flow restrictor in the spout. (Refer to installation instructions.)
If still problems with pressure on site, a booster pump may be required.
Options that can help pre-rinse operation in poor water flow are:
Use an AJPR10 connected to the highest pressure feed (cold-side recommended).
Fit an energy saving faceplate to the pre-rinse spray gun.

The spray gun on my pre-rinse won't close (runs continuously)
Sometimes kitchen staff tie the spray gun trigger in the open position, and turn the spray on and off at the base controls. Then, six months later they remove the tie, leaving the plunger valve stuck in the 'on' position. If this has happened, the plunger valve should be stripped, cleaned and greased.
Another reason could be that some debris has washed up the water supply and blocked the plunger valve - dismantle and clean through.
If the gun still stays stuck on, the customer can either purchase a spray gun repair kit AJGRK041, or a whole replacement gun AJSG019. It may be the parts have become clogged from hard water or debris and are not responding to cleaning or maintenance.
My pre-rinse hose has split.
Pre-rinse sprays are often subjected to abuse on site. The installation instructions supplied with each pre-rinse indicate the recommended area of usage (i.e., immediately above the wash-up sink bowl). Sometimes, however, kitchen staff use the pre-rinse to wash out the inside of the dishwasher, or to fill buckets on the floor. etc.-subjecting the pre-rinse hose to stretching and use beyond its design capabilities.
It is very unusual for a hose to split if it is being used correctly - use within the confines of prescribed recommended applications and operations should not cause a hose to break or split. However, if a replacement hose is needed, order part number: AJHA010.
If there is concern that the hose has broken despite being used in its recommended fashion, consider invoking Mechline's Returns Policy. Contact the office for a Returns Number and post the broken part to Mechline for inspection. After inspection, a report will be sent to inform you if the hose failed due to parts, workmanship or misuse.
The riser tube has snapped on my pre-rinse.
This probably means that the wall bracket either hasn't been fitted or hasn't been fitted properly. Either replace the entire unit or just the riser tube. Riser tubes can be purchased as a replacement part. Refer to Aquajet Spare Parts Diagram and Parts Numbers to order the riser tube needed for the pre-rinse spray unit. (Most commonly used riser tube is part number: AJRT005.) If it's believed that the unit was installed properly, again, please contact Mechline to invoke the Returns Policy. Mechline is happy to provide inspections and reports on products.
If the product hasn't been installed and is damaged in the box, please contact Mechline to invoke Mechline's Returns Policy.
Is the base on the AJPR30 adjustable to fit different sink holes?
Yes, it has adjustable 'legs' fitted that allow it to adjust from 170mm centre holes to 230mm.
Is the thread on the handle of the spray gun ½" BSP?
No. The standard thread is a thread peculiar to the pre-rinse (and some other manufacturers) but we can supply a gun with a ½" thread as a special order item. To order this part, please ask for part number: AJSG019-1/2"BSP.
I want to stop the head of my pre-rinse from being pulled down too far.
We recommend fitting an AJPR-RS restrainer that connects the main spring to the wall and prevents the head from being pulled down too far.

Another product option is the AJPR50. This unit is a wall-mounted unit with a restraining cable inherent to its design. Its robust construction makes it mis-use resistant.
I want to use the pre-rinse to clean out the dishwasher and fill buckets etc.
We do not recommend using conventional pre-rinse spray units for these kinds of operations. Their designs are not engineered to withstand the stretching and pulling. If this is going to be part of your requirements, consider fitting a retractable hose reel . Models: MERK, MRK15 or MSRK 15 (available with a choice of spray guns) . Do AquaJet spare parts fit most other brands of pre-rinse spray units?
As a whole, many of the parts available for Mechline's AquaJet Pre-Rinse Spray units are interchangeable with other brands. Please contact Mechline to clarify.
Is it possible to add a bowl-filling faucet to an existing AquaJet Pre-Rinse Spray unit?
Yes. However, in the manufacturing & assembly process at the company, a special glue is used to build the units to prevent leaking and disassembling. By using a heat gun, it might be possible to break these seals to install the requisite riser tube (part AJRT007) that needs to be fitted, as well as the bowl-filling faucet of choice. Please note that adding a bowl-filling faucet to an already built unit will void the Mechline warranty for parts & workmanship.
